"I am very happy here and I am glad the club have offered me the chance to stay even longer. My ambition and their vision fit together well. I desperately hope I will be able to lift the German title in the next four years. That is what we are working towards," said the former Werder Bremen stalwart, who has made 91 league appearances in three seasons in Gelsenkirchen.
"We are trying to build a strong team that can compete at the highest level both nationally and internationally. Our choice of goalkeeper is key to this," added Schalke team manager Andreas Müller.
