Madrid duo earn new contracts

Real Madrid CF have handed new deals to Álvaro Arbeloa and Rubén De la Red while Borja Fernández is moving on.

Two appearances
The 22-year-old Arbeloa was originally tied to the capital club until June 2007 but has signed a two-year extension, taking him to 2009. The defender made his debut last season against Real Betis Balompié and appeared again in the Primera División against city rivals Club Atlético de Madrid.

Promotion success
Like Arbeloa, midfielder De la Red will also continue at Madrid until 2009. The 20-year-old graduated to Madrid's B team last term and played an important part in their promotion to the Segunda División.

Borja loaned
The club have announced too that Borja, 24, will spend the new campaign at Mallorca. The deal includes a clause preventing him appearing against his employers in domestic action. Borja said: "I was only considering a loan or a transfer with a buy-back option. My aim is to return to Madrid, this is my club. I am sad about leaving but excited."
