Panathinaikos plump for midfield pair

Panathinaikos FC have strengthened their squad with the signings of Flavio Conceiçao and Igor Bišcan.

Panathinaikos FC have bolstered their midfield ahead of their UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign after completing the double signing of Flavio Conceiçao and Igor Bišcan.

Three-year deal
Conceiçao, capped 48 times by Brazil, joins from Turkish Superleague outfit Galatasaray SK in a deal worth €500,000. The 31-year-old defensive midfielder has penned a three-year contract with the Athens club after just one season in Turkey.

Spanish success
That move followed a loan spell at BV Borussia Dortmund but it is with Deportivo La Coruña and Real Madrid CF that Conceiçao made his name. After lifting the Primera División title with Deportivo in 2000, he added two more championships in the Spanish capital as well as picking up a UEFA Champions League winners' medal in 2002.

Liverpool loss
Meanwhile Bišcan moves on a free transfer from newly-crowned European champions Liverpool FC. The 27-year-old Croatian international has also agreed a three-year deal, ending a five-year association with the Merseyside club who he joined from NK Dinamo Zagreb in 2000.
