Arsenal keep Cole on board

England left-back Ashley Cole has ended speculation by signing a one-year extension to his contract at Arsenal FC.

Improved terms
The agreement, which includes vastly improved personal terms for the 24-year-old, should ensure Cole stays at the north London club until at least 2008. Six weeks ago, the 41-times capped international said there was "no way back" after Arsenal instigated a Premier League inquiry into a meeting Cole and his representatives had with London rivals Chelsea FC.

Illegal approach
"It feels like they don't want me to put my beloved Arsenal shirt on again," said Cole after being fined €145,000 for his part in the encounter - which constituted an illegal approach under Premier League rules. But after signing the new deal, Cole said: "I can't wait for the season to start now. I am looking forward to another successful season. We are all determined to regain the Premiership."
