Sutton deepens Celtic gloom

Celtic FC's Chris Sutton fractured a cheekbone at FC Artmedia Bratislava and is out for up to four weeks.

Daunting deficit
The 32-year Englishman will undergo an operation early next week after colliding with his captain Neil Lennon midway through the first half during their 5-0 defeat in Slovakia. He is certain to meet the return on Tuesday as Celtic attempt to overturn the daunting deficit in Glasgow, and should they make it through Sutton is unlikely to make the first leg of the third qualifying round tie against FK Partizan or FC Sheriff on 9/10 August.

New season
Sutton's injury also keeps him out of the opening games of the Scottish Premier League season, including Saturday's opener at Motherwell FC, against who a defeat cost Celtic the title last season. Celtic visit champions Rangers FC for the first 'Old Firm' game of the campaign on 20 August.
