Nilmar heads back to Brazil

Olympique Lyonnais' Brazilian striker Nilmar has been loaned to SC Corinthians for the season as the French club make space for new signings.

Positive step
An official Lyon statement said: "Nilmar will play at Corinthians until 30 June 2006. Corinthians will pay the player's salary and a fee." The player added: "It's not a step backwards for me. I'll have more chance to play. I'll grow faster and come back stronger for the last three years of my contract."

European goals
The 2004 FIFA World Youth Championship winner joined the French champions from SC Internacional last year and scored two goals in Ligue 1 last season. The 21-year-old also registered four times in the UEFA Champions League, including a last-minute double in a 4-2 group stage win against Fenerbahçe SK.

Extra slot
Nilmar's departure frees up a place in the Lyon squad for a non-European player and also gives them a chance to sign another striker. However, the most likely addition to the squad will be Portuguese midfielder Tiago who is expected to join from Chelsea FC.
