Zidane to miss opening night

Real Madrid CF will be without Zinedine Zidane for up to three weeks including Tuesday's Group F opener against Olympique Lyonnais.

Groin injury
The 33-year-old playmaker suffered a groin injury playing for France in the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday night. He was hurt making a tackle with 20 minutes left of his side's 1-0 win. He therefore joins striker Ronaldo, who has a thigh injury, on the sidelines although the Brazilian is on his way back to fitness.

Lyon date
Madrid play their second match of the Primera División season on Saturday night at home against RC Celta de Vigo. Vanderlei Luxemburgo's men then get their European campaign under way on Tuesday when they travel to French champions Lyon. Zidane will hope to return before the second Group F game against Olympiacos CFP on 28 September.
