Back in lineup
The 25-year-old striker will now be restored to the first team after missing the UEFA Champions League game against FC Barcelona on Tuesday as a consequence of his refusal to renew his previous contract expiring in 2007. "I'm happy to say that I was wrong," explained Udinese sporting director Pietro Leonardi, who yesterday said the striker was due to stay at Udinese only for another two years. "Udinese appreciated the availability of the player for reopening negotiations about a new contract."
Opening hat-trick
Iaquinta, who scored 13 goals in helping Udinese to fourth place in Serie A last season, started their first Champions League campaign with a hat-trick in the Group C opening 3-0 win against Panathinaikos FC. Udinese were then beaten 4-1 by Barcelona on Matchday 2.
