Giggs fracture frustrates United

Manchester United FC will be without Ryan Giggs for four to six weeks after the winger suffered a fractured cheekbone against LOSC Lille Métropole.
Manchester United FC will be without Ryan Giggs for four to six weeks after the winger suffered a fractured cheekbone in Tuesday night's goalless draw against LOSC Lille Métropole in UEFA Champions League Group D.

Aerial collision
The 31-year-old Welsh international sustained the injury in a mid-air collision with Lille midfielder Mathieu Bodmer in the 71st minute of the game at Old Trafford and, despite initially attempting to play on, he was substituted seven minutes from time. "Giggs has fractured his cheekbone," said United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "He did well to play on, I don't think he realised he'd done it. We didn't realise the full extent of the injury otherwise we would have taken him off straight away."

Injury woes
The news is a further setback for United, who are missing a number of first-team regulars through injury, including captain Roy Keane, defenders Gary Neville, Gabriel Heinze and Wes Brown, and striker Louis Saha. "There's not a lot we can do about it," Sir Alex said. "We just have to get on with it."
