Koeman's defensive dilemma

AFC Ajax coach Ronald Koeman must reconsider his options after an injury to Johnny Heitinga.

AFC Ajax coach Ronald Koeman will have to think again about his lineup to face Rosenborg BK after talented youngster Johnny Heitinga suffered a serious knee injury.

Chivu out
The 18-year-old left-back damaged the cruciate ligament in his left knee in Saturday's 2-2 Eredivisie draw against NAC Breda and could be out for six months. He had been earmarked as a possible replacement for Christian Chivu in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League match in Trondheim against Rosenborg.

New knee blow
Chivu, the Romanian international defender and Ajax captain, is absent after suffering a slight thigh strain in last week's 1-0 defeat by Internazionale FC. Heitinga, a product of the Dutch champions' youth academy, is no stranger to the treatment table himself, having had a different knee problem at the start of the year.
