Preferred choice
The former Stade Rennais FC player has found first-team opportunities limited this season as Lyon have forged ahead in domestic and European football, but was willing to stay and fight for his place. "I had offers from abroad but I prefer to stay at a more high-profile club even if I play less," said Diatta, who joined Lyon in summer 2004.
First appearance
Diatta, an experienced international, is highly regarded for his versatility. The 30-year-old has made only six Ligue 1 outings this term, while his first appearance in the UEFA Champions League came in Tuesday's 2-1 home win against Rosenborg BK.
