FC Bayern München midfield player Sebastian Deisler has signed a three-year contract extension with the German Bundesliga leaders, committing to the club until June 2009.
Easy choice
The German international's existing deal was due to expire at the end of the current season but he has now put pen to paper on a new contract, allaying fears that he would leave for nothing next summer. The 25-year-old joined Bayern from Bundesliga rivals Hertha BSC Berlin in a move worth €9.5m in 2002, and according to his agent the decision to extend that association was not difficult.
'Outstanding prospects'
"From Sebastian Deisler's point of view Bayern offered not only a fair deal, but also outstanding prospects in terms of footballing achievement," said Simon Bergmann. "He is extremely happy in Munich." Deisler is currently ruled out for the remainder of the year through suspension, having featured in 13 league games to date while also playing a key role as Bayern cruised through to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
