Argentinian international defender Gonzalo Rodríguez has extended his contract with Spanish UEFA Champions League contenders Villarreal CF until 2011.

Interested parties
The 21-year-old's original deal was due to expire in 2009, but with reported interest from other clubs, Villarreal coach Manuel Luis Pellegrini was keen to tie his centre-half to a longer contract ahead of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Rangers FC.

Regular starter
Rodríguez joined Villarreal from CA San Lorenzo before the 2004/05 season and has proved a big success at El Madrigal, playing his 50th Primera División game last weekend. Such impressive form has earned him five international caps.
