Juve confirm Zambrotta absence

Gianluca Zambrotta could miss both legs of Juventus' knockout tie against Werder Bremen as he needs around three weeks to overcome a thigh injury.

Juventus have confirmed that Italy full-back Gianluca Zambrotta will miss the opening leg of the forthcoming UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Werder Bremen as he needs around three weeks to recover from a thigh injury.

Medical tests
The 28-year-old took a blow to his leg during Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Parma FC and was quickly ruled out of Sunday's top-of-the-table meeting with FC Internazionale Milano. Juve officials had hoped Zambrotta would be fit for the trip to Germany on 22 February, although tests today place his participation in the return in Turin on 7 March in doubt too. The Bianconeri lead Serie A by nine points from Inter.
