Spartak snap up Pavlyuchenko

FC Spartak Moskva have signed Russian Under-21 international striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.

FC Spartak Moskva have signed Russian Under-21 international striker Roman Pavlyuchenko from SC Rotor Volgograd.

Tuesday medical
Spartak have agreed to pay an undisclosed sum, with the player moving at the end of the domestic season. Pavlyuchenko is expected to fly to Moscow on Tuesday to sign a contract, subject to a medical.

Stavropol product
Pavlyuchenko, who will be 21 in December, is a product of the Stavropol sports academy. He made his debut for FC Dinamo Stavropol in the Russian first division in 1998, and joined Premier-Liga club Rotor two years later, having since scored 17 goals in 67 league appearances.

Strong competition
It is reported that Spartak beat off competition from FC Dynamo Kyiv and PFC CSKA Moskva to signed the forward. Pavlyuchenko has scored three goals in four matches for the Russian U-21 side this season.

League disappointment
Spartak are currently third in the Premier-Liga, but seem likely to concede their championship title. They are already out of the UEFA Champions League after four defeats in Group B, but can still potentially make the UEFA Cup third round if they beat FC Basel on Wednesday week, a match postponed by seven days due to recent events in Moscow.
