Canadian-born
England head coach Sven Goran Eriksson called up the 20-year-old Canadian-born player for the first time when he named a 26-strong party for the game at Tottenham Hotspur FC's White Hart Lane. Hargreaves played an important role in Bayern's success last term, helping them to a domestic and European treble.
Full of praise
Eriksson was full of praise for the highly-rated youngster but admitted that he had picked Hargreaves solely on merit.
'Deserves his chance'
"He is playing regular first team football for Bayern Munich which in itself is evidence that he is a good player. "We shall see what is going to happen but I am happy to have him with us. He deserves his chance because he did well last season and has begun this season well too."
Arsenal trio out
Arsenal FC's Sol Campbell, David Seaman and Ray Parlour were omitted from Eriksson's squad due to injury, but team-mates Richard Wright, Ashley Cole and Martin Keown were all included.
