Helicopter trip
The 21-year-old right-back has high hopes of establishing himself at the Bundesliga champions after playing 26 games on loan at relegated 1. FC Köln last season. He was hurt in a pre-season match at Austrian side LASK Linz and taken to hospital in Munich by helicopter. Doctors diagnosed ligament damage and the player underwent an operation this morning. Bayern begin their title defence on 11 August but Lell should at least be back in contention by the start of the UEFA Champions League group stage on 12/13 September.
