Newcastle United FC striker Alan Shearer faces a UEFA disciplinary investigation after appearing to elbow an opponent during his side's UEFA Champions League defeat against Internazionale FC on Wednesday.
Video evidence
The proceedings have been instigated against the former England captain after video evidence showed him lashing out at Inter defender Fabio Cannavaro in the 25th minute of last night's match at St James' Park, a fact not picked up at the time by French referee Stéphane Bre.
Bellamy dismissed
It came on a night when Shearer's strike partner Craig Bellamy was sent off in the fourth minute after clashing with Marco Materazzi.
Friday decision
A decision on the Shearer case will be made on Friday, while Welsh international Bellamy, who is automatically suspended for Matchday 8, will be the subject of discussion at the next meeting of the UEFA Control and Displinary Body on 17 December.
