International duo commit to United

Mikaël Silvestre and Park Ji Sung have received a vote of confidence from Sir Alex Ferguson after signing contract extensions with Manchester United FC.

Mikaël Silvestre and Park Ji Sung have signed contract extensions keeping them at Manchester United FC until 2009 and 2010 respectively.

'Central role to play'
Silvestre's deal had been due to expire next summer but the versatile French international defender has decided to prolong his stay at Old Trafford following a shaky spell last season. "Mikaël has been an important squad member for seven years and his experience will help the younger players," said manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "He has a central role to play." The 29-year-old former Stade Rennais FC and FC Internazionale Milano player has made 232 Premiership appearances.

'Good character'
Park Ji Sung has only 33 English league games under his belt following his move from PSV Eindhoven last summer, but Sir Alex is ready to count on the Korea Republic midfielder in the long term. With the 25-year-old adding 12 months to his original contract, the manager said: "I am pleased to have secured him to the end of the decade at least. He has been blessed with good stamina, a great attitude and good character."
