FC Bayern München have lost Valérien Ismaël for at least six months after the central defender broke his leg in training.

Operation needed
The 30-year-old Frenchman fractured his left shinbone just two minutes before the end of training today. Bayern immediately sent him for surgery, with the player having already had a similar operation earlier in the summer. Ismaël played 30 times last season for Bayern, his first since joining from Werder Bremen, as they retained the Bundesliga title. He will miss the whole of the UEFA Champions League group stage, but should be available for the knockout rounds should Bayern progress.
