Fenerbahçe SK have unveiled Diego Lugano as their latest signing, paying Brazilian side São Paulo FC €7.5m for the tough-tackling Uruguay central defender.

Chase over
Fenerbahçe vice-president Mahmut Uslu revealed the capture of the 25-year-old on a three-year contract, with an option for a further season, ending a lengthy chase for Lugano's services. "We first watched him three years ago but have only just managed to sign him," Uslu said. "He is the missing piece in our back line and I hope he will settle quickly."

Success
Capped ten times, Lugano said: "I will do my best to please the fans. I'm very happy to come to Turkey." Lugano joined São Paulo in 2003 and helped the club to success in the Copa Libertadores and FIFA Club World Championship.
