AC Milan playmaker Andrea Pirlo has committed to the Rossoneri for two more years after signing a new contract that will expire in 2011.
The 27-year-old midfielder, whose previous deal was due to end in 2009, joined Milan ahead of the 2001/02 season from city rivals FC Internazionale Milano and became a key figure in the Rossoneri side that won the UEFA Champions Leaue in 2002/03 and the Scudetto the following campaign. In Serie A he has also played for Brescia Calcio and Reggina Calcio.
Pirlo has been capped 33 times by Italy, scoring five goals and lifting the FIFA World Cup in Germany this summer. He registered the Azzurri's first goal at the finals in Germany as well as a penalty in the decisive shoot-out victory against France. Milan start their UEFA Champions League challenge on 13 September with their opening Group H game against AEK Athens FC.
