Lucho proud to make Porto pledge

FC Porto captain Lucho González was "touched" after being offered an improved contract that will keep the midfielder at the Portuguese leaders until 2011.

FC Porto have handed key midfielder Lucho González an improved contract that will keep him at the Portuguese Liga leaders until 2011.

Captain
The Argentinian international has continued to impress since his arrival from CA River Plate in summer 2005 . Last season, he scored ten goals in 30 Liga matches and, this time around, has struck two in the nine matches to date. More telling is the club captain's contribution to Porto's UEFA Champions League campaign, with a crucial goal in each of his last two outings as Porto beat Hamburger 4-1 at home and 3-1 in Germany.

'Very happy'
Lucho, who at 25 has played 32 times for his country, said: "I'm very happy and touched by Porto's initiative because it means that I am doing a good job here and everyone is satisfied. I have a strong bond with the club, the players and the fans. We have achieved good results recently in the Liga and in UEFA Champions League but we haven't won anything. The team is still growing."
