Van der Sar commits to United

Veteran goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been rewarded for his part in Manchester United FC's fine start to the season with a new one-year contract.
Veteran goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has signed a new one-year contract at Manchester United FC, committing to the UEFA Champions League contenders until summer 2008.

Key player
The 36-year-old Dutch international has made the No1 jersey his own since arriving at Old Trafford from Fulham FC 18 months ago, and United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes he could be around for a while yet. "Edwin's fit, he's lean, he's hungry and he can play for another two years, easy. It all depends on what he wants." Van der Sar, whose original deal had been due to expire at the end of the season, has been ever-present for a United side who lead the Premiership by five points from Chelsea FC and who are awaiting Friday's UEFA Champions League last-16 draw as Group F winners.
