Real Madrid CF have unveiled Fernando Gago as their third signing of the winter after the midfielder completed a €20.5m transfer from CA Boca Juniors.

Dream scenario
The 20-year-old was presented at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium today after agreeing a six-and-a-half season deal with Fabio Capello's side. "I'm eager to start at the club of my dreams and to achieve great things," said Gago. "I'm going to help Real Madrid get as far as possible. My dream is to triumph in European football and carry on winning as many titles as I did with Boca in Argentina."

Christmas bonus
Madrid president Ramón Calderón was delighted to have secured the services of the player, nicknamed 'Pepita' in Argentina. "Today is the day that the Spanish Christmas lottery is drawn and we have won first prize," he said. "He is with us now and his name is Fernando Gago. I want to thank the player for having joined our club."

Italian passport
Madrid are due to make three payments of just under €7m for Gago over the next three seasons, according to Boca Juniors. Gago will not be classed as a non-EU player in Madrid's squad after he was granted an Italian passport earlier this week. He is Madrid's third South American signing of the winter so far, following the arrivals of 19-year-old forward Gonzalo Higuaín from Boca's Argentinian arch-rivals CA River Plate and 18-year-old left-back Marcelo from Fluminense FC.
