FC Bayern München have extended the contract of defender Christian Lell by two years until 2009.

'Very important player'
Lell returned from a two-year loan spell at 1. FC Köln this summer and the versatile 22-year-old right-back has proved a useful squad player since. Bayern coach Felix Magath said: "Christian Lell has become a very reliable and, to us, a very important player since returning from Köln. I am glad that he chose to extend his stay with Bayern." His club meets Real Madrid CF in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round.
