The 47-year-old's deal will take him up to 2011 after the Italian side were "happy" to confirm the extension last night. Spalletti joined Roma before the 2004/05 season from Udinese Calcio. After making his name at Empoli FC, whom he also served as a player, he went on to work at UC Sampdoria, AC Venezia and Ancona Calcio. Roma, second in Serie A but nine points behind FC Internazionale Milano, face Olympique Lyonnais on 21 February and 6 March for a place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
