Olympique Lyonnais have taken up their option to sign a one-year extension with 32-year-old playmaker Juninho Pernambucano.
The Brazilian's existing contract was due to expire in the summer of 2008 but the Ligue 1 leaders have already agreed to keep hold of the influential player for another year, with club president Jean-Michel Aulas adding: "We are considering an option until 2010." Juninho has been an ever-present in the Lyon squad since joining the club from CA Vasco Da Gama in 2001. They have won league titles in all five of his completed seasons at the club to date. Lyon take on AS Roma in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie in Italy tomorrow.
