Madrid pair to miss Munich trip

David Beckham and José Antonio Reyes are likely to miss Real Madrid CF's second-leg visit to FC Bayern München this week after damaging knee ligaments.

David Beckham and José Antonio Reyes are likely to miss Real Madrid CF's trip to FC Bayern München on Wednesday night after picking up injuries in Sunday's Primera División draw with Getafe CF.

Knee injuries
Both players had to be replaced during the 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabéu, Reyes leaving the pitch on a stretcher shortly before half-time after colliding with visiting goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri before Beckham limped off in the second period. The Spanish club, who are defending a 3-2 first-leg advantage in Munich, said later Reyes had damaged the lateral ligament in his left knee, while Beckham had a similar injury in his right knee.

"Both players are out of the Bayern game for sure," said Madrid coach Fabio Capello. "One of them [Reyes] has a serious injury and the other could have a significant one. We'll have to see what the tests say on Monday." In addition, Argentinian forward Gonzalo Higuaín limped off late on against Getafe with a badly bruised thigh, and Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has a similar problem.
