Destiny calls on Matchday 10

Three teams can reach the quarter-finals, and another can lose a fourth game yet stay afloat this week.

Final act
Matchday 10 could see the first three teams make certain of qualification for the quarter-finals of this season's Champions League, while at the wrong end of the group tables, Tuesday and Wednesday's action could prove to be the final act for two successful campaigners from 2001/02.

Ten-in-a-row
Barcelona are looking for their tenth consecutive victory in the group stages and a win would guarantee Radomir Antic's side a first-placed finish in Group A. At the other end of the table, defeat for last year's finalists Leverkusen at Newcastle United FC would extinguish any hope of their reaching the quarter-finals. A draw would also not be good enough for Leverkusen if Barcelona fail to win.

Roman ruin
It will be the end of the road for Roma in Group B if they fail to win at Valencia CF, so long as the game between Arsenal FC and AFC Ajax does not end in a draw. If, however, the match in Amsterdam does end all square then Roma could still qualify even if they lose in Spain - but they would need to become the first team in the history of the competition to qualify after losing four matches.

Russian challenge
The picture in Group C is slightly clearer: Milan will go through if they win at FC Lokomotiv Moskva tomorrow night. A draw would also be good enough for the Italians if Real Madrid CF win at BV Borussia Dortmund.

United front
In Group D Manchester United are through to the quarter-finals for the seventh season running if they get a point in Turin against Juventus FC. Deportivo, however, will fail to make further than the second group stage for the first time in three seasons if they lose at home to FC Basel and United fail to win.
