Berglund and Björk bolster Elfsborg

Swedish champions IF Elfsborg have signed international striker Fredrik Berglund and defender Fredrik Björk a week before entering UEFA Champions League qualifying.

Swedish title-holders IF Elfsborg have strengthened ahead of their UEFA Champions League campaign with the signings of international striker Fredrik Berglund and experienced defender Fredrik Björk.

Space filled
Berglund, 28, rejoins his first professional club on a four-year contract from FC København having previously left in 2001 for Dutch club Roda JC. He returned on loan in 2003 but was soon moving on again to Esbjerg fB in Denmark. He then spent the 2006/07 campaign at their rivals København, scoring seven goals in 29 games as they retained the domestic title. The forward, filling the space left by €300,000 SK Brann recruit Joakim Sjöhage, has scored two goals in eleven appearances for Sweden.

'Good signing'
Elfsborg director Stefan Andreasson said: "It is a genuine Elfsborg player that returns to the club and it's a very good signing for us ahead of Champions League qualification." Bergland featured in all six games for Danish debutants København in last season's UEFA Champions League group stage, as well as four matches in qualifying, although he failed to score.

Defensive addition
Also coming over to the side lying fourth in the 2007 Allsvenskan is Björk, 29, who has struggled to hold down a regular starting place at Helsingborgs IF but is seen at Elfsborg as a direct replacement for Toulouse FC signing Jon Jönsson. Elfsborg make their UEFA Champions League debut with a first qualifying round trip to Belfast's Linfield FC on Tuesday week, and hold the return at their Ryavallen home eight days later. København enter in the second qualifying round against Beitar Jerusalem FC.
