Striker Djibril Cissé has made his loan move to Olympique de Marseille permanent for an €8m fee after the French club finally came to terms with Liverpool FC.
Tough negotiations
The French international has signed a five-year contract at Marseille after impressing with the club last season. Marseille chairman Pape Diouf concluded negotiations over the 25-year-old’s transfer, saying: "It was hard but we finally did it. There was a long, tough discussion between the two sides. Without Djibril's commitment it would not have been impossible. You have to give him a lot of credit."
Impressive spell
A UEFA Champions League winner with Liverpool in 2005, scoring in the penalty shoot-out against AC Milan, the former AJ Auxerre forward is the second player to swap Anfield for Marseille this summer following the arrival of Boudewijn Zenden. A Marseille fan, Cissé - who has won 35 caps for France - scored 15 goals in 27 games for the club in all competitions last season. His new team will play in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League after finishing second in Ligue 1.
