Chelsea FC have agreed the transfer of FC Barcelona's Brazilian right-back Juliano Belletti, scorer of the winning goal in the 2006 UEFA Champions League final.
The Stamford Bridge club said on their website that Belletti would be confirmed as a Chelsea player once he had agreed personal terms and passed a medical. A fee reported to be in the region of €5.5m has been agreed by the two clubs. The arrival of Belletti, 31, casts doubt over whether Chelsea will maintain their pursuit of Sevilla FC defender Daniel Alves.
Belletti only signed a contract extension with Barcelona in March but his limited first-team opportunities last season - he made just 13 league appearances in the Primera División and two in the UEFA Champions League - may have convinced him of the benefits of a fresh challenge in London. The South American spent three seasons at Camp Nou after joining from Villarreal CF in 2004 and will be forever remembered at Camp Nou for his late winner in the 2-1 UEFA Champions League final victory against Arsenal FC.
