Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand reflected on a job well done as Manchester United FC moved to within sight of the UEFA Champions League first knockout round with a 4-2 win at FC Dynamo Kyiv.
Within 18 minutes Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney had put United 2-0 up and although Dynamo reduced arrears, Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice either side of half-time to put the game beyond the home side despite a late consolation. With nine points from three games, United are in control of Group F and a home win against Dynamo in a fortnight's time could seal qualification with two games to spare.
"We planned to win this one and we did it," Ferdinand said. "A good start was vital for us. We scored two quick goals and perhaps you could think that Dynamo would not recover. We may have felt this and allowed them a way back into the game from a set-piece, which is quite uncharacteristic of us, but as you have seen, we have restored our lead quickly and we never looked like giving anything more to Kyiv. We had to work hard today because there were a lot of long balls coming into the area. I think we did well at the back and they had to attack at a slower pace or stick to the wings."
Giggs added: "We dominated this match because today we were stronger as a team and individually. Maybe the home side were a bit unlucky because we are in very good form. I think that United are close to qualifying early but for this we need to play as well at home as we did today. Dynamo are not an easy team to play and they've shown it, but if you take our season we're improving constantly."
