Stanković to miss CSKA Moskva visit

FC Internazionale Milano midfielder Dejan Stanković will miss his side's UEFA Champions League match against PFC CSKA Moskva after twisting his ankle.

No fracture
The Serbian international was carried off the field on a stretcher following the injury, which occurred just before half-time, amid concerns that, in addition to ankle damage, he might have broken his leg. However, after returning to Milan for a scan, the 29-year-old was informed that his fibula was not fractured.

Uncertain absence
Nonetheless, doctors have confirmed that the former S.S. Lazio player has twisted his right ankle and damaged ligaments, although Inter have not revealed how many weeks the midfielder is likely miss. The Nerazzurri lead Serie A by two points and are top of UEFA Champions League Group G with six points from three games.

Serbia blow
The injury will also come as a blow to Serbia coach Javier Clemente who was hoping to count on Stanković's experience in his side's forthcoming UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Poland on 17 and 21 November. Serbia are third in Group A, three points behind Portugal and four adrift of leaders Poland.
