FC Schalke 04's Christian Pander is out of his side's crucial UEFA Champions League match against Chelsea FC at the Arena AufSchalke on Tuesday.

Damaged knee
The 24-year-old defender pulled ligaments in his knee during the midweek German Cup win against Hannover 96 and he will miss both the Bundesliga game at FC Energie Cottbus on Friday and the Group B visit of Chelsea on 6 November.

Westermann replacement
Pander was replaced in extra time against Hannover by Heiko Westermann, who is likely to take his place for the next two matches. The German international had already sat out the first meeting between Chelsea and Schalke in London due to thigh problems. Avram Grant's side top Group B having taken seven points from a possible nine, including the 2-0 defeat of Schalke on Matchday 3; Mirko Slomka's team prop up the table with three points but are a single point behind second-placed Rosenborg BK.
