French international midfielder Abou Diaby has signed a new contract with Arsenal FC, tying him to the club until 2012.
Diaby joined Arsenal in January 2006 from AJ Auxerre and has made 55 appearances for the club since then. The 21-year-old fractured and dislocated his ankle at the end of that season and was out of action for seven months, but is now pushing for a regular first-team place. Diaby started yesterday's 3-0 win against Newcastle United FC which sent the Gunners three points clear at the top of the Premier League. He has made three UEFA Champions League appearances this season and scored in the Matchday 6 victory against FC Steaua Bucureşti.
Arsenal have also signed 15-year-old striker Luke Freeman from lower league Gillingham FC for a fee quoted to be around €250,000. The Kent side's manager Mark Stimson said: "He's gone to probably one of the best clubs in the world to learn his trade and you never know, in years to come, he might come back to Gillingham and show what he can do for them."
