Bellion completes United move

Manchester United FC have signed French striker David Bellion on a four-year deal.

Manchester United FC have signed French striker David Bellion on a four-year contract.

Free transfer
The promising 20-year-old was out of contract at relegated club Sunderland AFC, after joining them in 2001 from French club AS Cannes. He made 20 Premiership appearances for the north-east side last season, but only started five matches.

Dream move
Bellion is the first new face at Old Trafford since the departure of England captain David Beckham to Real Madrid CF. "I am really excited to be joining Manchester United," Bellion told the club's official website. "When you are young they are one of the clubs you dream of playing for. I am ready to work hard and give 100 per cent to United, and I am already focused on the new season ahead."

'Great potential'
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who will again lead the English title-holders in the forthcoming UEFA Champions League group stage, added that the deal had been a "long process". Speaking to the club's website, he added: "He is a young player with great potential who will fit into the club's future plans very well."

Beckham signs
Beckham, meanwhile, put pen to paper on his four-year deal at Madrid today after passing a medical in the Spanish capital. He will be officially unveiled as a Madrid player tomorrow.
