Alkiza returns to Real

The veteran midfield player has signed a 12-month contract with the option of a second season to return to his hometown club after a nine-year absence.

Alkiza, whose father had been the Real president, moved to Athletic in 1994 after falling out with the coaching staff at the San Sebastian club. A versatile performer who can operate as a defensive midfielder or playmaker, the 32-year-old has been capped three times by Spain.
