Trio arrive at Kaunas

FBK Kaunas have signed three new players ahead of the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round.

Beniusis in
Kaunas have signed Lithuanian international striker Ricardas Beniusis from FK Atlantas Klaipeda, following an injury to regular forward Audrius Slekys. The club have also recalled goalkeeper Gytis Padimanskas, who was on loan at SFK Sakalas, because of a knee injury suffered by first-choice No1, Eduardas Kurskis.

Dobias falls through
The third new face in the Kaunas ranks is midfield man Andrius Gedgaudas from Ukrainian club FC Metalurh Donetsk. One player not joining though is Slovakian midfielder Peter Dobias, after he failed to prove his fitness.

Celtic goal
"We need to advance at least to second qualifying round of the Champions League", said Kaunas director Romualdas Kontrimas, about the signings. The Lithuanian champions face the prospect of a meeting with UEFA Cup finalists Celtic FC if they can overcome Faroe Islands side HB Tórshavn over two legs in the first round. The first leg is on Wednesday 16 July, with the return a week later.
