FC Bayern München have agreed a new 12-month contract with their 31-year-old captain Mark van Bommel while defender Martín Demichelis has extended his deal by two seasons until 2012.

Negotiations concluded
Van Bommel's contract should be signed in the coming days to end uncertainty over the former PSV Eindhoven midfielder's future. Having joined the Bavarian club from FC Barcelona in August 2006, Van Bommel was on course to become a free agent in the summer, before the 47-times capped Dutch international finally concluded negotiations on a deal keeping him in Munich for another campaign. "Finally we have reached an agreement," he said. "I will stay and I'm looking forward to another season with Bayern." He has made 19 Bundesliga appearances this term and seven more in the UEFA Champions League, scoring in the 7-1 first knockout round home win against Sporting Clube de Portugal.

Demichelis commits
Argentinian international Demichelis has also rubber-stamped fresh terms with Bayern. His existing contract was due to expire in summer 2010, but the 28-year-old has accepted a new agreement running until 2012. "I'm happy I could sign here again and I want to achieve a lot with FC Bayern in the coming years," said the 18-times capped Demichelis, who moved to Bayern from CA River Plate in 2003. He has played 20 Bundesliga matches this season, scoring three times, and six more in the UEFA Champions League. Bayern will find out their quarter-final opponents after the draw is made in Nyon on Friday at 12.00CET.
