Greek champions Olympiacos CFP have announced the signing of defender Olof Mellberg from fellow UEFA Champions League participants Juventus.

One-year stay
The Swedish international, who has 93 caps for his country, has penned a three-year deal for a reported fee of €2.5m and travelled to Seefeld, Austria, on Monday to join his new team-mates for pre-season training. The 31-year-old centre-back only joined the Bianconeri last season, after seven years in England with Aston Villa FC, and made 27 Serie A appearances for the Italian side.

Contracts lengthened
A veteran of three UEFA European Championships and two FIFA World Cup, Mellberg began his career in his homeland with Degerfors IF and AIK Solna before three campaigns with Real Racing Club in Spain. Olympiacos, who begin their European quest in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, have also extended the contracts of Polish defender Michał Żewłakow and French full-back Didier Domi until June 2010, with the option of a further season.
