Brazilian international centre-back Lucio is to end a five-season spell at FC Bayern München and join FC Internazionale Milano for an undisclosed fee.

Brazilian contingent
Bayern confirmed the sale of the 31-year-old, who has agreed a three-year contract and will link up with his compatriots Júlio César, Maicon, Mancini and Thiago Motta, another new recruit, at the San Siro. "Lucio wanted another long-term contract with us, but we only wanted to offer him two years," said Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness. "When Inter came in and offered him three years, he decided to accept it."

Lucio arrived in Germany from SC Internacional in 2000 and established himself during a three-season spell at Bayer 04 Leverkusen which included a loss to Real Madrid CF in the 2002 UEFA Champions League final. That disappointment was tempered by Brazil's FIFA World Cup success soon after, and the following summer he joined Bayern. The defender scored seven goals in 145 Bundesliga games for the Bavarian giants, winning the German double in 2005, 2006 and 2008. Both Inter, the Italian titleholders, and Bayern enter the UEFA Champions League in the group stage.
