Campbell completes Arsenal return

"Experience" and "good advice" are two qualities Arsenal FC manager Arsène Wenger thinks Sol Campbell will offer after the 35-year-old signed a deal until the end of the season with his old club.

Arsène Wenger hailed the "experience" of Sol Campbell after the 35-year-old defender signed a contract until the end of the season with former club Arsenal FC more than three years after leaving the Gunners.

Final goal
Having arrived on a free transfer in 2001 from local rivals Tottenham Hotspur FC, the last of Campbell's 197 appearances for Arsenal was the 2006 UEFA Champions League final, a 2-1 loss to FC Barcelona in which the former England player opened the scoring. The 73-cap centre-back, who won five major honours in his first spell with the north Londoners, subsequently enjoyed a three-year stint at Portsmouth FC before a surprise move to fourth division Notts County FC, for whom he played just once before leaving in December. A trial period with Arsenal ensued thereafter, earning Campbell a deal until the summer.

'Good opportunity'
"He brings experience, good advice, and physically he has worked hard," said Wenger. "We're giving him a chance. For us it is a good help until the end of the season, and for him it is a good opportunity to show he can still play in the Premier League." Campbell is the first player to rejoin Arsenal during Wenger's tenure and only the fifth to do so in the club's history. Arsenal resume UEFA Champions League duty in the round of 16 against FC Porto on 17 February.
