A strong team performance combined with the goalkeeping heroics of Silvio Proto ensured RSC Anderlecht earned a goalless draw at San Siro in their opening UEFA Champions League Group C game, with AC Milan yet to score in three home games this season.

The visitors had the better of the first half, but while the Rossoneri improved after the interval, Proto denied Mathieu Flamini and substitute Stephan El Shaarawy, inspiring the Belgian champions to a deserved point.

  • Anderlecht defence holds firm to earn valuable point

Reaction

In the first half the team made several mistakes. This is not a good moment for us and the fans are demanding that we win every match.

Nil-nil is a good result and we played well. We gave away some chances but also created a few ourselves. We did well. When you do not concede you have to be satisfied.

Minute By Minute

  • End Time
    The referee blows for half-time.
Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri will not be impressed with his side's performance so far. They have had three good chances to open the scoring, but the rest of their play has been less than inspired. Anderlecht will be delighted with their performance up till now and more than hopeful that they can hold out for another 45 minutes.
  • End Time
    The final whistle is blown.
A well deserved point for Anderlecht who enjoyed the early exchanges and then held on as Milan hit back after half-time. It was another disappointing performance by the seven-time UEFA Champions League winners, who have now failed to score in three home matches this season.
