AC Milan bounced back from surrendering a two-goal advantage to condemn Group C rivals FC Zenit St Petersburg to a first home defeat in UEFA competition in four years.

Unbeaten on home soil in Europe in 16 games, Zenit's proud record looked in grave danger when Urby Emanuelson and Stephan El Shaarawy put the Rossoneri two up inside 16 minutes. However, Hulk and Roman Shirokov combined either side of half-time to level the scores – until Tomáš Hubočan unwittingly turned into his own net on 75 minutes.

Match in 5

  • Zenit come from two down but lose to own goal
  • Zenit's first European home defeat in 17 games
  • Milan's first continental away win since November 2010
  • Stephan El Shaarawy scores fifth goal in four games
  • Goal and assist for Zenit's Hulk

Reaction

It is a very sad evening. I have a feeling the players forgot about the importance of this game and did not take full responsibility.

It was very tough today, we had to struggle until the very last second against a strong Zenit team.

    The final whistle is blown.
Richard van Poortvliet (@UEFAcomRichVP), Stadion Petrovski: After coming back from 2-0 down to equalise, Zenit will feel bitterly disappointed not to have earned a point. Milan started brilliantly, but in the end had the imperious Christian Abbiati to thank as they claimed victory in St Petersburg.
