FC Bayern München muscled into pole position in UEFA Champions League Group F with an imperious 6-1 victory which ended LOSC Lille's slim qualification hopes.
Claudio Pizarro was the chief protagonist for the Bavarians, completing a 16-minute hat-trick after Bastian Schweinsteiger's early opener and Arjen Robben's deflected third. Salomon Kalou's superb second-half strike proved scant consolation for the visitors, whose miserable night was compounded when substitute Toni Kroos added Bayern's sixth to inflict Les Dogues' heaviest European loss.
At half-time I told the team that we deserved to be leading 5-0. We wanted to continue playing with the same focus and avoid conceding but that's easier said than done.

Jupp Heynckes, Bayern coach
We'll have to put this aside quickly. We must forget the Champions League for a while. We just showed we were not good enough to play in this competition.

Rudi Garcia, LOSC coach

Bayern have won a hugely entertaining match by 6-1. LOSC managed to get a goal back in the second half through Salomon Kalou, but by then, the damage was done with the Bavarians having raced into a five-goal lead.
