FC Porto are through to the UEFA Champions League knockout stage with two matches to spare after a goalless draw with FC Dynamo Kyiv, whose chances of qualifying from Group A are hanging by a thread.
The result was not the belated birthday present Dynamo coach Oleh Blokhin, who turned 60 on Monday, was hoping for. Although his team forced the issue after the interval, following a largely incident-free first period, the Bilo-Syni seldom looked like making the breakthrough which would have kept them within striking distance of second-placed Paris Saint-Germain FC. As it stands, they trail the Ligue 1 club, their next opponents, by five points.
With their supporters behind them Dynamo are dangerous at home, but the result was fair. Not every team can achieve qualification on matchday four.

Vítor Pereira, Porto coach
We didn't take our chances. Though we only have a slim mathematical chance to qualify, we will prepare very seriously for the remaining games.

Olexiy Mykhaylychenko, Dynamo assistant coach

The goalless draw means Porto, now unbeaten in 21 matches dating back to March, have qualified from Group A with two matches to spare. Although Dynamo forced the issue after the break, particularly in the latter part of the half, their hopes of a top-two finish are all but over as they trail second-placed Paris Saint-Germain FC by five points.
