Julian Schieber's first UEFA Champions League goal was enough to end Manchester City FC's European season as Borussia Dortmund crowned a marvellous Group D campaign with a narrow victory.

The German title holders sailed through perhaps the competition's toughest section unbeaten in first place, recording their third successive home win. That is in stark contrast to City, who become the first English team in the UEFA Champions League era to fail to win a group match and finish fourth having lost all three of their away fixtures.

Match in 5

  • Schieber scores first goal in competition to clinch Dortmund win
  • Klopp's team finish unbeaten and top Group D
  • City are first English side to end group stage without a win
  • Dortmund yet to lose to an English side at home
  • Manchester City fail to qualify for UEFA Europa League

Our Champions League campaign is certainly something special. I would never have expected us to collect 14 points. I knew, however, that we would be a tricky opponent for the other teams.

The Champions League can be strange. Borussia last year went out in the group stages and, like us, were in fourth place. I think they can win the Champions League this year.
