FC Porto made their greater UEFA Champions League experience count against Málaga CF as João Moutinho scored the only goal of an intense and high-quality round of 16 match in Portugal.
Moutinho's beautifully conceived, and finished, strike just before the hour finally punctured the resolute defending of Manuel Pellegrini's Málaga, who will nevertheless feel they have a chance to turn things around in the return leg at La Rosaleda on 13 March.
Our first goal was to win, our second goal was not to concede. However, after the great quality we showed, I am not satisfied because we could not make it 2-0.

Vítor Pereira, Porto coach
Porto knew how to pressure us. We have shown in the past that we are capable of turning things around and we'll look to prove that ability at home.

Martín Demichelis, Málaga defender

Plenty of nice touches but without any real end product to trouble either keeper. Porto have been on the attack for most of the half but Málaga will head in the happier team having restricted the home side to set-pieces and shots from distance.
